On Sunday, Scott informed us that he would like us to go on a walk every morning starting at 8am. The non-morning contingency in the house was less than excited about this new plan, but awoke and dressed Monday morning in the interest of family time. On Monday we walked for over 2 hours, saw cool mushrooms, tried to track a deer who ran along the path, and watched an Eagle eat his breakfast to a chorus of crow. We had a snowball fight behind B.I.G. and got home very tired and HUNGRY because we had forgotten to eat breakfast first.
On the second morning we took a shorter walk, saw a sweet dog, and took the ridge trail.
Yesterday, we listened to the wind howl outside and decided walking was not on the agenda.
Today we drove to a woodland trail about 2 miles from our house, to find new places to explore. Today it was 30 degrees at 8am, but because there was no wind it was beautiful! Frost was everywhere and we got to feel it, taste it and throw sticks into the swamp where a thin crust of ice had begun to form. We saw thousands of dying Sculptured and Poison Puffballs, which burped brownish yellow gas/spores when we stepped on them. Andrew said it looked like potion.
We watched a Cooper's Hawk fly right over our heads, and counted four woodpecker holes in one downed log.
So yes, by now this nonmorning person is getting into the swing of things. I wonder what mysteries tomorrow morning will bring?

I didn't take my camera on our walk, but I did take these to demonstrate the beautiful frost we saw on our walk...
